We’re honoured to have the talented Michael Thomas Host, founder and owner of mth woodworks, as our featured artist at this months Thirsty Thursday.
We’re elated to have local East Vancouver Artist Lori Popadiuk as our featured artist at this months Thirsty Thursday.
Lori spent her childhood growing up in East Vancouver trolling the alleys with her Grandad looking for junk to make cool things with. Her love for design and creating began at an early age and lead her to study Fine Art at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, as well as Interior Design at BCIT in later years. By uniting the two crafts she has managed to gain popularity within the design world, recognized mainly for her previous body of work title the “Birch” series.
At the beginning of 2015, Lori returned from a 6 month sabbatical in the Netherlands. While abroad, she worked on reconstructing her approach to painting, by breaking down old habits, allowing and encouraging transformation. Since her return, her work has evolved dramatically yet still preserves an apparent passion for creating movement, texture and depth within a defined palette. Her new works are a departure from the familiar look of peeling birch bark that lifts to reveal ephemera from days gone by, these new works are much more personal. They evoke complex dichotomies of calm and chaos or rebellion and obedience. The techniques she uses are varied and spontaneous harnessing the attributes of acrylic paint, charcoal, pencil and ink to create a series of drawn imagery that lies close to her heart.
Her work is available directly from her studio in the Mergatroid Building at 975 Vernon Dr. Vancouver, BC.
We hope you can join us June 8th, to view a selection of Lori’s captivating work at this months Thirsty Thursday.
